Sunday, September 27: Michael Massie: now and then with Alysa Procida
Join us at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on September 27th for a virtual presentation on Michael Massie’s newly opened exhibit “Michael Massie: now and then” at the Ontario College of Art and Design University in Toronto. Alysa Procida, former Executive Director of the Inuit Art Foundation, has curated the exhibit and will speak about Massie’s continuum of work over the years. Sunday, October 18: Viktor and Inna Iadne
Join us at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on October 18 for a virtual presentation with Siberian Nenets artists Viktor and Inna Iadne. If you are unfamiliar with these master carvers (currently located in New York City), you are in for a real treat, as their intricately carved pieces are both beautiful and deeply connected to the traditions of their homeland. Sunday, November 22: Highlights of the November Inuit art auction with First Arts staff.
Join us at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on November 22nd for a virtual presentation with the staff at First Arts as they discuss some of the noteworthy pieces in their November auction.
Past Virtual Meetings
Past virtual meetings include show-and-tell presentations featuring favorite works from the collections of members of the Inuit Art Society (IAS) and the Arctic Arts and Culture Society (AACS) in Vancouver, BC, with one show-and-tell focusing on prints, carvings, and wall hangings illustrating Inuit legends.
Pat Feheley on Arnaqu Ashevak
Our May 2026 virtual meeting featured Pat Feheley, noted Inuit art scholar and owner of Feheley Gallery, speaking about Arnaqu Ashevak, adopted son of celebrated artist Kenojuak Ashevak and her husband, Johnniebo. A talented printmaker and carver, Arnaqu Ashevak was best known for his three-dimensional works that often utilized unconventional materials.
Napatsi Folger on Pitseolak Ashoona
Our March 2025 virtual meeting featured Napatsi Folger on the work of Pitseolak Ashoona and Pitseolak’s influence on contemporary Inuit art.
A Virtual tour of Gallery Elca London
In spring 2024 we took a virtual Tour of Galerie Elca London in Quebec with Mark London.
Mark has been an Inuit art dealer for decades and is also one of the founders of the First Arts Premiers. The previous meeting was built around the theme of transformation. You can see the presentation slides here. Before that, we featured shamanic pieces by Judas Ullulaq, Charlie Ugjuk, Lucy Tasseor Tutsweetok, Josiah Nuilaalik, and Floyd Kuptana. Other meetings featured Inupiaq watercolorist Amanda Jane Davison from Elim, Alaska, Baker Lake textile artist, Eva Noah, whose grandmother was Jessie Oonark, Inuk artist David Merkuratsuk who uses pointillism in his work, and Alaskan artist Vera Shoogukwruk, a a Siberian Yupik/Inupiaq from St. Lawrence Island and White Mountain Alaska who has produced a beautiful collection of parkas, kamiks, mukluks, mittens, and jewelry. Other speakers included Michael Warren from the Madrona Gallery in Victoria, BC and Simon Griffiths, the owner of ABoriginArt, a virtual gallery located in Vancouver, BC.
