We note the passing of Terry Ryan, long-time manager of the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative, on August 31, 2017.
Beginning in the late 1950s he traveled the Arctic, settling in Cape Dorset in 1960 and assuming a leading role in managing the Cooperative (now Kinngait Studios). He played many roles in the community until leaving in 2000 to move south where he opened and managed Dorset Fine Arts until his retirement in 2008. He was appointed to the Order of Canada in 1983, was made an Honorary Fellow of the Ontario College of Art and Design in 1995, and was awarded the Governor General’s Award for Visual Arts in 2010.
