Marion (Mame) Jackson is Professor Emerita at The University of Michigan and Wayne State University (Detroit) and taught also at Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada); she worked closely with Inuit artists and with Canadian national institutions in organizing exhibitions of contemporary Inuit art in the 1980s and 1990s. Mame is Co-Curator for Tillirnanngittuq, will discuss this exhibition that inaugurates the Power Family Program for Inuit Art at The University of Michigan Museum of Art.
She will recall the role of the Power family in introducing contemporary Inuit art in the U.S. in the 1950s and reflect on the exciting new potential of Power Family Program for Inuit Art to advance understanding and appreciation for Inuit art and culture in the future.
