Registration for the 2018 Inuit Art Society Meeting is open!
The 2018 IAS meeting will be held October 19- 21 at the Dennos Museum Center in Traverse City, Michigan.
Featured participants include:
Artist Damien Iqualla: Pursuing a theme of emerging artists, our invited artist is Damien Iqualla, a young Inuit artist of incredible skill and talent from Gjoa Haven/Cambridge Bay.- Don Stuart, OAC, will be discussing the establishment and art of the Pangnirtung Weaving Studio. Stuart developed and initiated the acclaimed studio on Baffin Island, which today thrives as the largest hand-weaving studio in Canada. Pangnirtung weaving from the Dennos’ collection will be on display at the museum. Don is internationally recognized as one of Canada’s leading gold/silversmiths, known for his striking jewelry.
- Bernadette Driscoll Engelstad is a curator and scholar currently a Research Collaborator at the Arctic Studies Center of the Smithsonian Institution. Bernadette specializes in the history of Arctic fur clothing design in North American and European museum collections. She has organized numerous exhibitions of Inuit cultural history presenting sculpture and graphic art by contemporary Inuit artists.
- Stephanie Gandulla, a maritime archaeologist and member of the Sedna Epic Expedition Project studying the impact of global climate change in the arctic.
